Job Description:

October Newsletter

Dear Parents,

Kindergarteners are doing an amazing job learning many new

skills in reading, writing, math, social studies and social

skills.

The students have been working on learning letter and letter

sounds, beginning and ending sounds in words and rhyming

groups in our daily read aloud, shared readings, reading

groups, writing groups and center work. At this time

kindergarteners should know 12 lowercase letters and 10

letter sounds. Please work with your child on these very

important skills.

Students are also working on their math skills during whole

group lessons and centers. The skills we are focusing on this

month in Math are:

·         Counting forwards 0-21

·         Counting back from 10-1

·         Read numbers 0 to 10

·         Compare lengths, matching ends

·         Recognize a penny and know its value

·         Match one to one when counting objects

Please work with your child on these skills at home.

Students have been and will be bringing home books from

their reading groups in a plastic bag with their name on

them. Please be sure you read these books with your child at

least three times. Then sign the blue sheet that is in their bag

and write the title of the book your child read to you. Then

have your child bring the book bag, book and blue paper back

to school the following day.

Please feel free to write me a note, call me at school if you

have any questions or concerns. Thank you so much for your

support and for all the hard work you do at home with your

child.
